afters is a multiplayer rave game, on this site and in the afters app for iPhone. This page says what afters keeps about you, why, who else sees it, and how long it is kept. It covers the game, the app and this door. afters is made by FERAL; the company responsible for your data is Artisan Deli Market Limited, in England.
afters is for adults (18 and over).
What we keep
- Your email address, and when you gave it. It is how you sign in: you type it at the door and we send a six-figure code there. There is no password. If you asked for an access code, it is how we tell you when there is one.
- The name you were let in under, and when you last came in.
- That you told us you are 18 or over, and when. afters is for adults, so the door asks your date of birth once. We check it and keep only the answer, never the date, with which version of the terms you agreed to when you went in. If you tell us you are under 18 we keep that answer too, so the door stays shut.
- Your account in the game: its id, the name you play under, your look, your progress, what is in your pockets, your flat and what you own in it.
- Your profile, if you fill it in: a photo (we take out where it was taken), your country and your Instagram name. Only your friends see them.
- Messages you send to friends: the newest 200 between any two people, so you can read back.
- Notifications, if you turn them on in the app (your phone in the game, Settings): we keep Apple's token for your phone with your account, and which kinds you want, so a friend's message, an invite or a friend request can reach you when you are not in the game. It is deleted when you turn notifications off, when Apple tells us the app is gone from that phone, and when you delete your account.
- Chat in a room is held only while the room is open, and is not written down, except when somebody reports a player: then that player's last lines go with the report.
- Reports, blocks and mutes: who reported or blocked whom, when, why, and where in the room it happened.
- Records you upload to your bag, and any you list for others.
- How the game runs on your device, every half minute while you play: how smoothly it draws, the name of your graphics chip, memory, screen size, whether the device is hot or saving power, the delay on your connection, and whether the page closed. It is linked to your account so we can find the cause when the game lags or closes on you.
- Where you go in the game (which rooms you enter and leave) and which records are played.
- The kind of device you asked from (iPhone, Android or desktop) and which link brought you, if the link said.
- Your IP address is held in memory to slow down repeated wrong codes, and is written to our server's log when that happens. It is never turned into a place.
Your voice
When you choose to talk out loud, your voice goes live to the players standing near you, through our server. It is not recorded. When you say a chat line instead of typing it, the clip (up to 12 seconds) is sent to Google to be written out; the words come back to you, and neither we nor the game keep the clip or the words. The app asks for your microphone only the first time you choose to talk.
The game's characters
Some characters in afters talk back. To write what they say, the character's notes about you, your in-game name, your country and the chat near them are sent to an AI service (DeepInfra, and Google as a fallback). A character may remember a short note about you (up to 300 letters) for next time.
On your device
A pass, so you stay signed in (thirty days), and the game's own settings and account key in your browser's storage or the app's. Records you add to your decks are kept on the device too. You can clear them like any site data, or by deleting the app.
What we use it for
- To run the game: to sign you in, keep your progress, show you to the people you play with, and carry your chat, voice and messages.
- To keep people safe: to act on reports and enforce blocks.
- To find and fix what goes wrong: lag, crashes, a device the game struggles on.
- To tell you about afters by email (when you have a code, when it opens, new places and nights). Every email says how to stop them.
There are no adverts in afters, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell anything about you.
Who else sees it
- Other players see your name, your look and where you stand; the people near you hear you when you talk; your friends see your profile and your messages to them.
- Resend sends our email (your email address and the code).
- Google writes out a spoken chat line, and is the fallback for the characters.
- DeepInfra writes what the characters say.
- Apple, if you use the app: what Apple's own terms say. A notification goes to your phone through Apple, with the name of the friend it is from and what they wrote.
Our servers are our own, in the EU. Nothing else is shared.
How long
Until you delete your account or ask us to. Some things are kept after that, because they protect other players or the game: a report and the lines that went with it, the rights to a record somebody listed, and the performance rows, which no longer lead to you once your account is gone. If afters never opens, we delete the list of people who asked for a code.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself at any time: open your phone in the game, then Settings, then Delete my account, and press again to confirm. It removes you from the door, and your name, your email address, your flat, what you carry, your tracks, your friends and your messages from the game, and signs you out on every device. You can also ask us to, at the address below.
Your rights
You can ask to see what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it or to take a copy, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Write to hey@feralclo.com.
